The second race weekend of the 2025 F1 season has officially ended, with George Russell securing the third spot on the podium at the China GP. The race on the Shanghai circuit has just concluded, confirming McLaren’s superiority and seeing Oscar Piastri celebrate ahead of his teammate Lando Norris. In China, Mercedes driver George Russell completed the podium in the second F1 race of 2025.
Pirelli’s strategies suggested two pit stops for the second round of the F1 championship, but many teams opted for a single stop as the hard tire showed low degradation. The British Mercedes driver was one of the first drivers to decide to race with a single stop.
Statements after the GP
George Russell, at the end of the race, stated: “It’s a great result to finish in third, especially in front of these fans who provided incredible support throughout the weekend. Great race, but we’re happy because we knew the McLarens were a bit faster than us, and we scored important points for us.”
George Russell on the decision to make a single stop: “From the beginning, I thought a single stop could be easier than we expected. Anyway, the car performed great this weekend; it was probably one of my best weekends in F1. I’m really satisfied because I managed to give my best every time I went on track. I’m very happy with the podium. Charles put a lot of pressure on me for a few laps after the pit stop, then there was that battle with Lando for a few laps, but apart from that, it was a pretty straightforward race.” – the British driver concluded at the end of the Chinese Grand Prix at the 5.451-kilometre Shanghai International Circuit.
