Zak Brown: “Mastercard deal is the perfect launchpad for McLaren ahead of 2026”. McLaren has announced Mastercard as its new title sponsor from 2026.

McLaren signs landmark title sponsorship with Mastercard

McLaren has secured a major commercial boost ahead of the new era of Formula 1 regulations in 2026. The team based in Woking officially confirmed that Mastercard will become its new title sponsor from the 2026 season onwards, marking the first time since 2013 that McLaren will carry a naming partnership. The official name of the team will be updated to McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, signaling a deepened collaboration with one of the world’s biggest financial service companies.

Millions flowing into Woking thanks to Mastercard

The partnership with Mastercard is far more than symbolic. According to reports from The Athletic, the deal is valued at around $100 million per year over the course of ten seasons, which represents a long-term commitment worth approximately one billion dollars in total. This massive financial injection underlines Mastercard’s trust in McLaren’s project, led by CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella. It also reflects confidence in the strong performances delivered on track in recent seasons, which have helped re-establish McLaren among the leading teams in Formula 1.

For McLaren, this partnership represents not just financial stability but also a powerful commercial endorsement. Since its last title sponsor left in 2013, the British outfit has been steadily rebuilding its brand and competitiveness. Now, with Mastercard’s support, McLaren is better positioned to compete with the sport’s top teams in the highly anticipated 2026 regulation era, when Formula 1 will introduce significant changes to both power units and aerodynamics.

Zak Brown’s reaction to the Mastercard deal

McLaren CEO Zak Brown expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, underlining both the financial and emotional significance of the agreement. “I am absolutely thrilled to start this new chapter of our collaboration with Mastercard with a promise to our papaya family all around the world: we will continue to put our fans first, bringing them even closer to the team,” said Brown.

He added: “Mastercard is a fantastic partner that shares our passion and our values. Having them on board as our official title sponsor will give us the perfect springboard to continue pushing both on and off the track.”

Why this deal matters for McLaren’s future

The new sponsorship deal arrives at a crucial moment for McLaren. As Formula 1 approaches the 2026 season, when a brand-new set of technical rules will come into play, the financial muscle provided by Mastercard ensures that McLaren can invest heavily in research, development, and infrastructure. The support also strengthens the team’s ability to retain top engineering talent and provide competitive machinery for its drivers in the coming years.

For Formula 1 fans, this partnership represents another sign of the sport’s growing commercial appeal worldwide, with global brands seeking long-term involvement in the championship. For McLaren supporters, it is an encouraging statement of intent: the team is determined not only to return to winning ways but also to do so with the backing of a partner that shares its vision and long-term ambitions.
