Formula 1 is all about talent, speed, and strategy, but often the secret to success lies in the relationship between driver and track engineer. Yuki Tsunoda has emphasized just how special the collaboration is between Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase, the “GP” of the paddock, who has turned communication into a winning weapon.
Tsunoda: “GP is one of the most impressive engineers I’ve ever worked with”
In an interview with DAZN Japan, Yuki Tsunoda explained:
“It’s completely different. You can feel how efficiently everything works. I wanted to reach that level of communication. If you first have to check something with someone else, you’re automatically a step behind.”
Speaking about his direct work with Lambiase, he added:
“GP is honestly one of the most impressive engineers I’ve ever worked with. His ideas are incredible. He also takes care of my chassis, but when Max is in trouble, that has to be the priority. My own engineering team is very competent, but simply less experienced, so sometimes we needed help. I couldn’t just ask for it every time.”
Yuki Tsunoda’s words highlight an aspect often invisible to fans: the synergy between driver and engineer can make as much difference as raw talent behind the wheel. The collaboration between Verstappen and Lambiase has become a model of efficiency and mutual trust, capable of elevating performance and inspiring colleagues like Yuki Tsunoda. It demonstrates that in Formula 1, victory comes not only from speed, but from perfect teamwork.
