A future without Red Bull: Yuki Tsunoda acknowledges the errors he made in F1. The Japanese driver will remain in Faenza for at least another season after missing out on promotion to Milton Keynes. Liam Lawson, less experienced but deemed “mentally stronger,” was chosen instead to replace Sergio Perez. This decision could significantly impact the future of the 24-year-old from Sagamihara.
After taking a few days to process the situation, Yuki Tsunoda has opened up about missing out on a promotion to Red Bull. He will stay in Faenza, where he will team up with young French talent Isack Hadjar, already seen as a potential future candidate for Milton Keynes. Christian Horner’s decision wasn’t based solely on performance—although inconsistent—and Yuki Tsunoda admits to his share of responsibility.
According to the Racing Bulls driver, his early seasons in Formula 1 hindered his progress. Failing to deliver strong results right away may have tarnished his reputation. A solid but not outstanding 2024 season wasn’t enough to convince Milton Keynes, which, uncertain about his true potential, opted for his teammate from New Zealand.
Yuki Tsunoda on Red Bull’s rejection: “I focus on what I can control”
In an interview with *Autosport*, Yuki Tsunoda shared his perspective on not being selected: “I think it’s partly my fault because, in my first year, I wasn’t able to be fast right away. It created a particular image of who I am. In 2024, even though my performances were good, it feels like I didn’t get the recognition that other drivers probably did.”
“Of course, I’ll keep doing what I’m doing and achieving good results to prove them wrong. I’m just trying to give them fewer excuses or reasons not to put me in that seat. I focus only on what I can control, accepting the situation. I’m confident I can do a better job than they think.”
He also responded directly to Helmut Marko, who claimed the Japanese driver isn’t mentally ready: “I’d say my communication aspect has improved, especially my radio language. I’d also say my composure has gotten better, with more technical feedback and focus. I can definitely feel the improvement over the year, and I’m very satisfied with it.”
