Tsunoda shines in Baku
Yuki Tsunoda delivered a strong performance at the Baku GP, crossing the finish line in sixth position behind Liam Lawson and ahead of Lando Norris. Throughout the race, the Japanese driver challenged several competitors, including Norris and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, demonstrating impressive pace and racecraft. With Max Verstappen narrowing the gap to Oscar Piastri, Tsunoda’s resurgence in confidence could make him a valuable strategic player in Red Bull’s championship strategy.
Red Bull’s secret weapon
Speaking to accredited media, including GP-News.net, Yuki Tsunoda praised the efforts of the Red Bull team, emphasizing how their continuous development played a crucial role in his performance: “Yes, I think the team is pushing very hard with these upgrades and everything else, trying to gain even just a few thousandths of a second. Half a second, or even a quarter, can make a big difference. I believe we are definitely more confident heading into the upcoming races, and we expect to achieve even better results.”
Supporting Verstappen in the title fight
At the end of the Baku GP, Yuki Tsunoda was asked about Max Verstappen’s chances of clinching the 2025 Drivers’ Championship. The Japanese driver confirmed Red Bull’s determination to fight until the end: “So yes, we are certainly not giving up this season; we want to secure the Drivers’ Championship for Max.”
Although the gap to Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris remains significant, Tsunoda is positioning himself as a crucial ally in Red Bull’s title campaign. “I will try to extract every ounce of performance from the car. And if, in the meantime, I can support him, I will be happy to do so,” he added.
The road ahead
With seven races remaining in the 2025 Formula 1 season, all eyes are on Max Verstappen and his bid to recover the 69-point deficit to Oscar Piastri. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda’s recent form suggests that he could play a key role in helping Red Bull mount a successful challenge for the fifth world championship of Verstappen’s career.
