Formula 1 | Williams still behind, but Miami showed the team is finally on the right path
The Miami Grand Prix marked a crucial turning point for Williams, which finally managed to introduce the technical upgrades that had originally been planned for the start of the Formula 1 season.
Carlos Sainz strongly approved of the evolution of the car, describing it as the “real” Williams for 2026, whose debut had been delayed due to problems in the team’s winter production processes.
The current package was originally supposed to be ready for the Australian Grand Prix, but ultimately arrived four races later than expected.
In Florida, the British team introduced a major aerodynamic revision involving the floor, sidepods and front wing, together with targeted modifications to the rear suspension.
This technical transformation immediately delivered positive results. Carlos Sainz secured a solid ninth-place finish, closely followed by Alex Albon.
The double points finish not only boosts confidence inside the team, but also allows Williams to move ahead of Audi in the constructors’ standings.
According to reports from MotorSport Italia, however, the development path is only just beginning.
Team principal James Vowles confirmed that the priority remains a significant reduction in the car’s weight, a limitation inherited from delays linked to pre-season crash tests.
The recovery plan includes several tightly scheduled development steps, culminating in the introduction of a new and lighter chassis over the coming races.
Step by step, the historic Grove-based team finally appears to have found the correct direction to climb back up the midfield order.
