Williams and Gulf launch fan-powered special livery project for FW47 at 2025 F1 Brazilian GP. Williams and Gulf launch the 'Driven by Words' campaign.

Williams Racing and Gulf Oil have officially launched the ‘Driven by Words’ campaign during the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone. This new initiative, created in partnership between the Grove-based Formula 1 team and the iconic American oil company Gulf, invites fans from around the world to help design a special livery for the FW47 that will race at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos this November.

The campaign, which was unveiled in London—just ahead of Williams’ home race at Silverstone—aims to put fans at the heart of the livery design process. From now until August 25, supporters are encouraged to submit up to five words that express what motorsport means to them. These words, which can be written in any language, can be submitted through the official websites of either Williams Racing or Gulf Oil.

The chosen words will then become part of a visually striking and one-of-a-kind design for the FW47 Formula 1 car, integrating them into a Gulf-themed livery that will be showcased on track at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The project celebrates the rich heritage and vibrant colours of the Gulf Oil brand while also highlighting the voices of the global fan community.

The ‘Driven by Words’ campaign was launched at the Williams Racing fan zone located in the heart of London’s Piccadilly Circus, a site that brought together supporters and media for the big reveal. The initiative follows a similar collaboration between Williams and Gulf in 2023, when the team’s FW45 featured special liveries during the Singapore, Japanese, and Qatar Grands Prix.

“We’re thrilled to continue celebrating Gulf’s exceptional racing legacy with our partner Atlassian Williams Racing,” said Mike Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Oil. “We both share a deep passion for motorsport and this campaign is a tribute to the people who make it truly special: the fans. This will be a livery like no other—one that brings the fans’ voices onto the car itself by transforming their words into a powerful visual design. When it hits the track in Brazil, it will be a defining moment in the 2025 Formula 1 season.”

James Vowles, Team Principal of Williams Racing, echoed this sentiment. “We are delighted to unveil this new campaign with Gulf, which unites two icons of motorsport in a unique tribute to those who keep Formula 1 alive: the fans. ‘Driven by Words’ is the latest example of our commitment to engaging with fans more closely than ever before—whether through fan zones, behind-the-scenes social media content, or exclusive online experiences,” James Vowles said.

“Atlassian Williams Racing is proud to have one of the most loyal and passionate fanbases in Formula 1, and I can’t wait to see how their words will come to life in an unmissable livery for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.”
