Max Verstappen is targeting a third consecutive Grand Prix victory at the 2026 United States Grand Prix, but Red Bull has much more at stake in Austin than another race win. Consecutive victories in Malaysia and Singapore have confirmed the team’s recent progress, and the Circuit of The Americas will now provide a crucial test of whether the improvements introduced to the RB22 since Baku can deliver consistent performance across different types of circuit.
Having won on two tracks with very different characteristics, the Milton Keynes-based team faces a particularly demanding challenge in Texas. The central question is whether Red Bull’s development breakthrough represents a lasting improvement or whether its recent competitiveness still depends heavily on the specific demands of each circuit.
Why Austin is a crucial test for Red Bull’s RB22
The Circuit of The Americas combines sequences of high-speed corners, long straights and particularly slow sections, alongside significant elevation changes and a relatively bumpy surface. These characteristics require compromises in car setup and will put the RB22’s balance to the test across several different types of corner.
For Red Bull, this makes Austin an especially valuable opportunity to assess the effectiveness of the upgrades introduced from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix onwards. Success on a circuit with such varied demands would provide further evidence that the team’s recent improvement is not limited to particular track characteristics.
Finding the right compromise will be essential, especially given the contrasting requirements of the fast changes of direction and the slower sections. The bumps and elevation changes will add another challenge as the team attempts to establish a competitive setup from the beginning of the weekend.
Max Verstappen targets third consecutive Grand Prix victory
Max Verstappen arrives in Austin after winning the Malaysian and Singapore Grands Prix, as well as the Singapore Sprint. That run has returned Red Bull to consistent contention for victories and given the Dutch driver an opportunity to extend his winning streak in the United States.
“Finally winning in Singapore was special, and taking two consecutive Grand Prix victories, as well as a Sprint, with our power unit is something the whole team should be proud of. Austin is very different to drive, but always enjoyable, despite all the bumps. There are long corners and elevation changes, so we will need to find the right setup immediately,” Max Verstappen said.
The challenge at COTA will be different from those Red Bull faced during its recent victories. The team must now demonstrate that its improved performance can translate into another competitive weekend on a circuit that places demands on almost every aspect of the car.
Isack Hadjar hopes to recover after difficult Singapore weekend
For Isack Hadjar, the United States Grand Prix represents an opportunity to recover from a difficult weekend in Singapore and make a more substantial contribution to Red Bull’s resurgence.
“The car has really taken a step forward in performance over the last three races, and we want to carry those improvements into the United States. I’m ready to get back to fighting at the front,” Isack Hadjar said.
The French driver’s objective is to capitalise on the improved competitiveness of the RB22 and return to the leading positions. His performance in Austin will also provide another indication of how effectively Red Bull’s recent developments are working.
Red Bull’s 2027 ambitions add importance to United States GP
The Texas weekend will begin a new sequence of three consecutive Grands Prix, with Mexico and Brazil following immediately after Austin. This demanding stretch will give Red Bull several opportunities to evaluate its performance before the final part of the 2026 season.
The particularly difficult opening phase of the championship has effectively compromised the title ambitions of Max Verstappen and Red Bull, with the gaps in the standings leaving little realistic hope of a comeback.
Nevertheless, the remaining races of 2026 still have considerable strategic importance. Red Bull needs to establish whether the improvements achieved in recent weeks provide a solid foundation for returning to championship contention in 2027, or whether significant weaknesses remain to be addressed, particularly in comparison with Mercedes.
Austin will therefore be about more than extending Max Verstappen’s winning streak. It will be an important measure of Red Bull’s technical progress and whether the RB22 has become a genuinely versatile contender across the different challenges presented by the Formula 1 calendar.
