Why Red Bull’s latest RB21 updates give Max Verstappen the edge in the title battle. Red Bull’s latest upgrades at Monza and Baku have given Max Verstappen the front-end precision he needs.

Max Verstappen now has what he needs to win the world championship

Red Bull has finally found the right key to unlock performance again: targeted updates introduced at Monza and Baku have given Max Verstappen a car that perfectly suits his driving style. With these improvements, the Dutch champion once again has the tools he needs to compete at the very top and challenge McLaren in the world championship battle.

After consecutive victories at Monza and Baku, Red Bull and Max Verstappen are back in the spotlight. For the three-time world champion, the RB21 finally feels once again like a machine built entirely around his needs, largely thanks to the latest technical upgrades that have transformed the car’s handling characteristics.

Why the front end is crucial for Verstappen

The key lies in Max Verstappen’s sensitivity at the front of the car. The Dutch driver has never tolerated understeer and needs a sharp, responsive front end to carry maximum speed into corners. Thanks to the new developments, Red Bull has now delivered exactly that: more precision on corner entry and greater stability under braking, all while preserving rear-end consistency.

Red Bull’s latest technical upgrades

At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, Red Bull introduced a revised rear wing without the small finishing trims on the trailing edge, as well as a subtle Gurney flap designed to slightly increase downforce and improve braking stability. Meanwhile, at Monza, changes to the floor featured a larger cutout that improved airflow around the tyres, reducing drag and boosting diffuser efficiency.

Additionally, the team removed some rear wing supports that had previously disrupted aerodynamic flow. These may sound like small details, but combined they made the car faster, better balanced, and easier to drive at the limit.

Another key change came at the front wing. With the updated design, the peak downforce has been shifted further outward, creating a more consistent aerodynamic response across different steering angles. In practice, this means Verstappen now has a front end that reacts the same way in every cornering phase, without unexpected behavior or loss of confidence.

Max Verstappen back at the center of Red Bull’s project

These adjustments do not necessarily mean that Red Bull will dominate the remainder of the season. However, it does mean that Max Verstappen once again has the perfect weapon for his aggressive yet precise driving style. The Dutchman has always preferred a car with a touch of controllable oversteer rather than a machine that understeers excessively, and now the RB21 finally delivers exactly that balance.

The world championship fight remains intense, especially with McLaren’s pace, but Verstappen is now in a position to consistently apply pressure. As demonstrated with his back-to-back victories at Monza and Baku, he has everything he needs to spoil the party for the Woking-based team and keep his hopes for another title alive.
