When consistency pays off: Alex Albon shines even without the spotlight
Among the stand-out performers of the Italian Grand Prix was Alex Albon, who climbed from fourteenth on the grid to finish in seventh place. It was yet another solid result for the Thai driver, confirming himself as a cornerstone of Williams’ progress this season.
Rarely off form except for a few setbacks
Albon has been strong since the very start of the year in Melbourne, where he secured fifth place. Since then, only a handful of technical issues have prevented him from being a constant presence in the points. Out of sixteen races contested, he has failed to score in only five of them. That statistic is even more impressive when compared to the disappointing campaign of his teammate Carlos Sainz, who has scored in just six races out of sixteen and has never finished higher than fifth place.
At present, Williams sits fifth in the Constructors’ Championship with 86 points, while Albon himself has already collected 70. The numbers are clear: without the Thai driver’s contributions, the team from Grove would be much further down the order.
A sparkling return after the summer break
Following the summer break, Formula 1 returned to action in the Netherlands and Italy. On both occasions, Albon proved to be quick and competitive. At Monza, Saturday qualifying was not ideal, with both Williams cars missing out on Q3. Yet once again, Albon turned things around on Sunday, recovering swiftly through the field. Thanks to smart strategies and his evident feeling with the car, he showed himself to be both solid and reliable.
“We adopted a fantastic strategy and had great pace in the car. I would say this was one of the most well-balanced Sundays I’ve had all year. In many parts of the race we were as fast as the leading teams, so it was a great comeback after a tough qualifying,” admitted Albon after the Italian Grand Prix.
A reliable force in the heart of the midfield
Without making too much noise, Albon is putting together a season that deserves recognition. It is not always necessary to stand on the podium to leave a mark in Formula 1. Sometimes, perseverance and consistency are enough to earn praise even when racing far from the very front. Albon embodies exactly this spirit—and it is precisely why Williams can now dream bigger than it has in years.
