Valtteri Bottas hopes updates can help Kick Sauber finally move up F1 standings. Valtteri Bottas shared his thoughts about the 2024 F1 Mexico City GP.

Kick Sauber, a zero to erase
As the weekends go by, the zero in the Constructors’ Championship for Kick Sauber becomes heavier. Throughout the year, all the midfield teams have had their moments of glory, seizing the opportunity to score points, but this hasn’t been the case for the Hinwil team. Their developments on the C44 have mostly been unsuccessful, and they risk leaving a poor legacy for Audi.

Valtteri Bottas’ comments
One of the last chances to move up the standings is the Mexico City GP, where Valtteri Bottas took pole position in 2021 (and infuriated his then-teammate at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, at the start). The Finn, who scored points here with the Swiss team in 2022, shared his thoughts about this weekend’s event: “It’s nice to be back in Mexico; they know how to throw a party here, and the atmosphere before the race is always exciting. It’s a very unique track: you race with Monaco wings, but it feels like Monza, and you have to adapt your driving style to the conditions. The thin air is an extra challenge, but it makes this GP special.”

“Looking back at Austin, we managed to match the pace of our competitors in the early stages of the race, which is a positive sign for the new parts we brought there, and something we can build on for the rest of this triple-header,” he continued. “There’s still work to do, however, to make sure we can maintain that pace throughout the race and stay with the pack. We’re committed to further developing the car to address its weaknesses.”

Guanyu Zhou’s comments

“One of the positives of racing every week is the chance to come back from a difficult race and immediately have the opportunity to improve,” added Guanyu Zhou, who will be replaced by Robert Shwartzman in FP1. “Last weekend’s race gave us some positives, like the promising pace in the first laps, and I hope to build on that starting from Friday. I’m looking forward to having more practice sessions and time to work out the best setup for the race, as well as to maximize the potential of the new parts. As a team, we need to keep pushing and stay positive, with the goal of turning things around and getting back on par with our main competitors, both in qualifying and, most importantly, on Sunday.” – he concluded ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix.
