Arvid Lindblad will be the only rookie on the 2026 grid. The 18-year-old will have to carry this burden alone, following a 2025 season that saw as many as six rookies supporting each other in their debut year.
The young talent will drive for Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson, while Isack Hadjar has been promoted to Red Bull. However, his name is certainly not a new one in the paddock: the Red Bull Junior Team recruited him back in 2021, and the Briton has since climbed through every category at a blistering pace.
In the words of Arvid Lindblad
“I’ve come a long way quickly,” he stated in a recent interview with F1.com. “I’ve only been in each category for one year, so I’m used to being thrown straight into the shark tank every time. From that perspective, it will definitely help me because I’m accustomed to it.”
“But on the other hand, I haven’t raced in Formula 1 yet, so I don’t know what to expect. We have to see; I need to keep an open mind and work hard, because this will be the biggest leap I’ve ever faced.”
The 18-year-old’s talent was immediately recognized by Red Bull, who even requested a special waiver for Lindblad to obtain his F1 Super License before turning 18, with the aim of getting him into the top flight as soon as possible.
Indeed, in 2025, the driver participated in two sessions behind the wheel of a Red Bull car: Free Practice 1 in Great Britain and Mexico. Once again, he did not disappoint, placing himself ahead of several experienced F1 drivers.
“I’ve always thought that focusing solely on performance in F1 was the best way to get an opportunity. So that has always been my goal. All of this—the Super License and the FP1 sessions—was a confidence booster, a confirmation that I was heading in the right direction,” he explained.
“Silverstone was special for me, being my first time in FP1 and obviously at my home race. It was demanding because I was also racing in F2, so I couldn’t focus entirely on F1; I still had to perform well in F2 that weekend.”
“But Mexico was a bit easier,” he added. “I had no other commitments, so I focused on doing the best job possible, which definitely helped.”
In Mexico, Arvid Lindblad was not the only rookie taking part in free practice. Almost every team brought a new face to test their cars that weekend, but the only one to truly stand out, finishing in sixth position, was Arvid Lindblad himself.
The kid has talent to spare, and while next year will be a season of adaptation, there is little doubt we will see some fireworks right from the start!
As Arvid Lindblad prepares to be the sole newcomer in 2026, the spotlight will be firmly on the Racing Bulls driver to see if his record-breaking rise through the junior ranks can translate into immediate success at the pinnacle of motorsport.
