Tests and “secrets”: McLaren mechanics create a barrier against a photographer – VIDEO. ed a barrier against a photographer.

McLaren MCL38, 2024

The McLaren mechanics’ barrier at the end of the test
A curious scene occurred at the end of the first day of winter tests in Bahrain. Upon Lando Norris’s return to the pit stop area, McLaren mechanics quickly formed a human wall around the MCL39, which had finished its stint with the left side of its livery “stained” by flow viz, the fluorescent paraffin-based liquid teams use to visualize airflow generated by the car at high speed.

The reason for the action is clear: there was an F1 photographer getting closer to capture the MCL39 and, consequently, the flow viz patterns on the car’s livery.

The video
The official F1 accounts published a video of the incident.

As seen in the video, some mechanics step in front of the car, while others, noticing the photographer, prevent him from capturing the MCL39 by placing their hands in front of the lens. All the people involved in the scene are smiling, and even the photographer walks away amused.
