Strange incident in Monaco: did marshals throw something at Lando Norris?. A mysterious object flew toward Lando Norris’s McLaren during the Monaco GP.

Lando Norris, McLaren MCL39, 2025 F1

At the end of the Monaco GP, Max Verstappen joked with the media about how bored he was during the race, making a tongue-in-cheek reference to Mario Kart. According to the four-time world champion, bananas should be used to make the race more exciting. A lighthearted comment, for sure, but one that might hide a bizarre twist. In the last few hours, in fact, a video has emerged featuring Lando Norris’s McLaren, the Monaco marshals, and a strange flying object coming at speed from trackside.

Let’s take a closer look. In the video, something appears to come from the area where marshals are positioned trackside at the Rascasse corner. At that moment, Norris’s McLaren—leading the race—passes right near the strange object.

Banana thrown by marshals at Norris in Monaco? THE FRAMES

In the footage, it’s not entirely clear whether the McLaren actually hits the object, although it seems like aerodynamic flows diverted its path. Due to the high speed, the frames don’t clearly reveal the exact trajectory—whether it was thrown or something that detached. For the same reason, it’s also unclear what the object might be.

Theories about the flying object suggest it could be a piece of a Pirelli advertisement board. But there’s also a more humorous theory: strangely enough, some believe it could be a banana peel. The frames appear to show a shape similar to a peel being tossed toward the ground. It also seems the object originates from the direction where the marshals were located.

Lando Norris, however, doesn’t appear to have complained about the object, and there’s no information indicating he communicated anything about it to the McLaren pit wall. What’s certain is that the object thrown onto the track is extremely unusual, especially considering there was on-track action at the time, and it is strictly forbidden to throw anything from trackside during an F1 session or race.

What really happened remains unclear, but Lando Norris can be thankful that nothing happened and that the mysterious object didn’t damage any parts of his car. In the past, even tear-off visors and ordinary plastic bags have forced drivers to retire from races. So, dear Max, maybe it’s better to steer clear of bananas.
