In recent days, we have witnessed the unveiling of new Formula 1 cars by seven teams, alongside an additional event organized by engine supplier Honda, aimed at showcasing the RA626H power unit that will power the Aston Martin AMR-26, designed by Adrian Newey and set to be revealed to F1 fans for the first time on February 9.
During this period, however, we noticed a behavior from the high-ranking figures in the sport that did not meet our expectations. Having seen the presence of the Formula 1 president at the event organized by Red Bull and VCARB on January 15, we would have expected to see Stefano Domenicali appear at most, if not all, of the team launch events. Instead, he did not.
All or nothing: F1 is sending the wrong message
To our surprise, Domenicali made appearances only at events organized by Red Bull-VCARB and Honda. Excluding Haas, which released only photos online, all the other teams – Audi, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Alpine – arranged dedicated slots where managers and drivers spoke to fans about their season expectations.
Domenicali and Formula 1’s approach therefore seems incorrect. It should be all or nothing. Why attend only Red Bull-VCARB and Honda events? Why not visit all the teams? When decisions like these are made, it is no wonder that fans perceive favoritism toward certain teams over the course of the season.
At the conclusion of all team presentations, we will provide an update on the total events Domenicali has chosen to attend. Williams, Cadillac, McLaren, and Aston Martin are still to present their cars. At present, however, the balance does not favor the Formula 1 president. With both the MCL40 and AMR-26 scheduled to be unveiled on the same day, February 9, the overall impression is likely to be even more negative.
