Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli showed a hint of disappointment after failing to set his best lap in Q3, but his strong form remains evident, putting him firmly in contention for a podium finish.
Mercedes Qualifying Performance in Singapore
Andrea Kimi Antonelli appeared more composed and mature, reflecting the performance of his Mercedes during the Marina Bay street circuit qualifying sessions. After strong showings in Monza and Baku, the Brackley rookie has gained the confidence he needed with his W16, translating into an impressive fourth place in the Azerbaijan GP—a result he repeated on Saturday in Singapore.
With seven races remaining in the 2025 World Championship, Kimi Antonelli’s goal is to steadily collect points to add to his current 78, while avoiding mistakes that could compromise his season finish. If the Italian continues to perform at the level he demonstrated in Singapore, and if Mercedes maintains its efficiency, reaching the 100-point mark is a realistic target. On race day, the Anglo-German team is expected to extend its lead over the elusive Red car.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s Comments on Qualifying
Despite securing fourth on the grid, Kimi Antonelli admitted some frustration in his post-qualifying interview with Sky Sport. He noted that he regretted ending the day in fourth, highlighting the good work he had put in throughout the weekend, including FP3, Q1, and Q2, where he managed to put together competitive laps.
Regarding Q3, he explained that he did not achieve the desired result, which he found frustrating. On the topic of pole position, Kimi Antonelli reflected that Mercedes had a genuine shot at the fastest lap or at least the front row, but circumstances did not align. Nevertheless, he was pleased with how quickly he adapted and found speed on a track that was still new to him.
Weather conditions, heat, and humidity are expected to play a major role, along with tire management. Antonelli acknowledged the challenges ahead, emphasizing that many teams lack complete data, adding to the uncertainty of the race. About his starting position, he concluded confidently that from fourth on the grid, a podium fight is within reach, hoping for an optimal race pace from the car.
