Ferrari lost Simone Resta in 2024, as he heads to Brackley with Mercedes. After a misunderstanding on LinkedIn, the mystery surrounding his new role at the Silver Arrows has been revealed. Spoiler: James Allison’s position is not at risk.
On March 20, 2024, Ferrari had to part ways with Simone Resta, who moved to Mercedes in England. In recent days, there had been a media storm surrounding his role at Brackley due to his LinkedIn profile. The Italian was listed as the Technical Director of the Silver Arrows, raising questions about James Allison’s position.
No alarm: James Allison is safe
The lack of an official announcement from the German team had already raised questions. Normally, such a significant change, involving a central figure like the technical director, is always formally communicated through the appropriate channels. The silence from Brackley had therefore fueled uncertainty about the authenticity of the news.
The clarification came from Resta himself, who updated his LinkedIn page. The new wording, “Vice Technical Director – F1,” confirms that he will continue to serve as James Allison’s deputy, a role he has held since last November. The misunderstanding seems to have resulted from an error made when updating the profile with the new Mercedes uniform image, forgetting to correct the listed job title. Most likely, the reference to the technical director role was a leftover from his time at Haas, from 2021 to 2023.
The episode turned out to be just a simple misunderstanding. Simone Resta will continue to contribute to Mercedes’ projects in his current position, collaborating with Allison in technical management. This event once again demonstrates how high the attention is on key figures in Formula 1, where any change immediately sparks speculation and debate.
