Sergio Perez’s first Cadillac tour, the Mexican driver wants to win
The new Cadillac Formula 1 project continues to take shape, and Sergio Perez has now completed his first visit to the factory. The Mexican driver, who will officially return to the World Championship after a year away from the grid, described the experience as “exciting.” Sergio Perez admitted that he feels motivated and ready not only to compete as a driver but also to take on a leadership role within the new team.
Perez’s experience will be key for Cadillac
Perez does not arrive at Cadillac as a rookie. Thanks to his years of experience in Formula 1, he has earned a seat with the brand-new team. During his tour of the factory, Sergio Perez was able to see the facilities up close, meet the design group, talk with engineers, and understand how the car that will make its debut next season is being built. According to Sergio Perez, this early immersion is also a way to shake off the “rust” from his year of inactivity. “After a year away from Formula 1, it’s important to start feeling the car again,” he explained.
Many challenges still ahead for Sergio Perez and Cadillac
Plenty of uncertainties remain. As a completely new team, Cadillac must build everything from scratch: design, assembly, operational structure, testing, and supply chains. Perez acknowledged that immediate dominance cannot be expected, but his visit to the factory was also a clear message that the team intends to give its maximum effort. The goal is to grow quickly, but also in a sustainable way.
This stage is also crucial for building internal trust. Engineers, drivers, and management need to communicate in the same language and share clear objectives. Being one of the main faces of the project means that every misstep will be noticed and every difficulty will be under the spotlight. That is why Cadillac chose to rely on experience, signing Sergio Perez alongside Valtteri Bottas as drivers. With their knowledge of how Formula 1 works, they reduce the risks of rookie errors and give the new team a solid foundation to build on.
