Just one week after a disastrous Austrian Grand Prix that saw both Cadillac drivers retire with brake failures, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas managed to reach the chequered flag at Silverstone. For Perez, the British Grand Prix also matched his best result of the 2026 Formula 1 season, even if the points remained out of reach.

From disaster to the finish in just one week

At the previous round in Austria, both Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas were forced to return their Cadillacs to the pits after only four laps when both cars suffered dramatic brake failures. Silverstone told a different story. Not only did both drivers finish the race, but Perez equalled his best result of the season with a 14th-place finish.

Although his final position was helped by the post-race penalties handed to Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Carlos Sainz, the Mexican viewed the result as an encouraging step forward for both himself and the American team.

“Overall, it was a good race, probably one of our best of the season,” Sergio Perez said. “We made a very good start and fought hard to keep the Haas behind us. There’s still plenty of work to do, but we have to keep pushing, and hopefully the next upgrade package will move us further up the grid.”

“With a little more pace, we’ll really be in the fight with the midfield teams and we’ll be able to start competing seriously.”

Ending the retirement streak

Although Valtteri Bottas’s 13th-place finish in China remains Cadillac’s best result of the season, the team’s overall performance at Silverstone represented another important milestone.

“The most important thing is that we finished the race for the first time after three consecutive retirements, which is a positive. It’s also the first full race distance we’ve completed with the upgrades, so we can learn a lot from both cars about how to optimize the package going forward.”

“I think we’ve improved our overall pace. At times, especially on the hard tyres, we felt a little closer to the midfield, while maintaining a comfortable gap over Aston Martin throughout the race,” Perez concluded.
