Sebastian Vettel has confirmed that he will not return to Formula 1 as a driver, stating that a specific chapter of his career is definitively closed. However, the four-time world champion left the door open for other potential roles within the sport.
In recent months, Sebastian Vettel’s name, the former director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA), had been discussed as a possible successor to Red Bull’s long-serving advisor Helmut Marko. While speculation about a potential Helmut Marko– Sebastian Vettel transition at the Milton Keynes team has largely faded, the idea of Vettel remaining involved in Formula 1 in some capacity has not been completely ruled out.
Sebastian Vettel enjoyed a distinguished Formula 1 career, racing for BMW-Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari, and Aston Martin. He claimed four world championships, 53 Grand Prix victories, and 57 pole positions, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
“Not as a driver, that time is over. But taking on some other role is absolutely conceivable,” Vettel told ZDF in an interview regarding a possible return to the Formula 1 paddock. “At the moment, I’m quite happy and I have several things to focus on.”
In recent months, Vettel also tested the Porsche 963 LMDh at the Aragón circuit, showing his interest in endurance racing. However, he has ruled out a full-time commitment to the World Endurance Championship (WEC): “I drove one of these cars once because I was curious. It was fun, but nothing has materialized so far.”
Vettel’s statements underscore his desire to remain connected to motorsport while stepping away from the pressures and demands of a full-time Formula 1 driving role. His experience and expertise could still make him a valuable contributor in advisory or developmental capacities within teams or broader racing initiatives.
