Red Bull’s teen talent Arvid Lindblad impresses as F1 opportunity looms. Red Bull’s 17-year-old talent Arvid Lindblad is impressing in Formula 2.

Max Verstappen, Red Bull RB21, 2025 F1

In recent months, one name has been making waves across the Formula 1 paddocks worldwide: Arvid Lindblad. This young British-Swedish racing driver, who is only 17 years old, is rapidly climbing through the ranks of international motorsport. As a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, his progress has been so fast and impressive that comparisons to Max Verstappen are already starting to surface.

What’s striking is that Lindblad has already achieved milestones that many drivers can only dream of throughout their careers. For instance, he was granted a special exemption for a Super Licence to participate in a Free Practice session during the British Grand Prix weekend—a highly rare and exceptional occurrence. This moment wasn’t just a personal breakthrough for Lindblad; it was also a very clear message from Red Bull Racing: this is a young driver with extraordinary potential.

Arvid Lindblad Shows His Strength in Formula 2

This year marks Arvid Lindblad’s debut season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, where he competes with Campos Racing. And to be honest, he is leaving a strong impression on both fans and professionals alike. He currently sits sixth in the drivers’ standings—a remarkable achievement for someone in his rookie year. What observers find most impressive is how composed and mature he appears behind the wheel, almost as though he already has several seasons of experience under his belt.

Dr. Helmut Marko, the advisor for Red Bull Racing and head of the Red Bull Junior Program—who is known for his sharp eye for emerging talent—has already taken a particular interest in Lindblad’s development. In fact, Marko has not ruled out the possibility that Lindblad could enter Formula 1 as early as 2026 with Racing Bulls, the Faenza-based Red Bull sister team. That alone speaks volumes about the level of trust and confidence Red Bull has placed in him.

“I Want to Be the First Arvid Lindblad”

Although the motorsport world continues to draw parallels between Lindblad and reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, the young driver is quick to distance himself from such comparisons. In an interview with The Times, Lindblad made a statement that stood out: “Being associated with a World Champion is obviously an honor. But I don’t want to become the new Max Verstappen. I want to be the first Arvid Lindblad.”

At first glance, it may sound like a humble remark. But beneath the surface, it reveals a steely determination. Lindblad knows exactly where he wants to go—and how he plans to get there.

Verstappen on Lindblad: “He Needs to Follow His Own Path”

And what does Max Verstappen himself think of all the comparisons being drawn between the two of them? The Dutch Formula 1 champion—who is no stranger to early pressure, having entered Formula 1 before he was even old enough to hold a driver’s license—chose to offer supportive and thoughtful advice, more like that of an older brother.

“I’ve known him for a long time,” Verstappen said. “He raced with the karting team owned by my best friend. He’s quick, he has talent. But he needs to take everything one step at a time.”

Verstappen added something particularly insightful: “From what I see, Red Bull is doing a good job with him. They’re not pushing too hard. He just needs to keep being himself and not let comparisons influence him.”

The Importance of the Right People Around Him

According to Max Verstappen, what truly matters for Arvid Lindblad’s development is the environment and the people guiding him. And in this respect, Red Bull seems to have learned from its past mistakes. “He has the right people around him—people who know what they’re doing and who are guiding him properly. That’s what makes the biggest difference,” Verstappen noted. “It’s important to stay focused and take one step at a time. I’m happy for him and how he’s progressing. When he eventually makes it to Formula 1—and I believe he will—that’s when we’ll really see what he’s capable of.”

The overall impression is that Red Bull is handling Lindblad’s development in a much more measured and strategic way compared to some previous cases. They are not rushing him, but rather letting him develop at his own pace while consistently supporting his growth.

And as for Arvid Lindblad himself? He continues to deliver strong performances, growing race by race. With the mindset of someone fully aware that the best is yet to come, he is slowly but surely moving closer to the pinnacle of motorsport—and when his time comes, he wants to arrive on his own terms.
