In recent years, Red Bull has always raced with the same blue, red, and yellow livery. However, to mark the final year of its partnership with Honda, the team has decided to create a special livery for the Japanese Grand Prix, held at the home race of the Japanese manufacturer. The weekend in Japan will also be Yuki Tsunoda’s first race at the wheel of a Red Bull in his home Grand Prix, making it an especially meaningful event for him.
Honda Ends Engine Supply to Red Bull
Honda has been a key partner for Red Bull since 2018, when it began supplying engines to Toro Rosso, and then to Red Bull the following year. Over the course of this collaboration, Red Bull has won two Constructors’ Championships and four Drivers’ Championships. Starting next year, Red Bull Powertrains (RBPT) will take over the engine program, bringing an end to the long-standing partnership. Honda will continue supplying engines exclusively to Aston Martin.
Red Bull’s History of Special Honda Liveries
The announcement of the special Japanese Grand Prix livery is expected next week. Four years ago, during the Turkish Grand Prix, Red Bull ran a special livery to honor Honda on what would have been its home race weekend, had it not been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In previous years, Red Bull has introduced several unique liveries, including those dedicated to Star Wars and Superman. Last year, the team also organized a fan contest to design special liveries for the British, Singapore, and United States Grands Prix. However, Red Bull later revealed that it opted not to apply the Singapore livery due to concerns over the added weight.
