Racing Bulls prepares major upgrades for Miami and Montreal
The unexpected break in the Formula 1 calendar has created an unusual development scenario for several teams, including Racing Bulls. The enforced pause has had a direct impact on upgrade schedules, leading the team to plan two distinct update packages for two consecutive race weekends. A substantial upgrade, originally scheduled for the Bahrain Grand Prix, will now be introduced in Miami, followed by a second package set to debut in Montreal. Early feedback from simulator work has reportedly been encouraging.
Racing Bulls has officially confirmed that it will bring a series of technical updates to both the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix. This situation is relatively uncommon, as some of the components introduced during the Miami weekend will already be replaced by new elements just one race later in Montreal. “The package you will see in Miami, which is quite significant, was initially planned for the Bahrain weekend,” explained team principal Alan Permane, “and at the same time, development of the subsequent update, scheduled for Montreal, continued in parallel.”
Unusual development timeline but no change in overall plan
Despite the unusual timing, the team’s overall development roadmap has remained unchanged. The forced break imposed by the calendar did not alter the schedule established at the beginning of the season. “We will have a sequence of two closely spaced upgrades,” Permane continued. “It was not possible to combine them, because the components intended for the Canadian Grand Prix would not have been ready in time for the United States race.”
This will result in a rather atypical situation, where some elements introduced in Miami will already be replaced in the following event. “There were no alternatives given the calendar constraints,” he added. “However, the long break allowed us to focus on other areas as well, taking advantage of the opportunity to carry out additional, unplanned work on the chassis.”
More spare parts and positive simulator feedback
Another key benefit of the break has been the ability to produce a greater number of spare parts, which is crucial when introducing new specifications. “We will have more components available,” confirmed Permane. “With the original calendar, we would have arrived in Bahrain with two, at most three sets of new parts, whereas in Miami we will have sufficient stock for both cars.”
In addition, Racing Bulls engineers tested the new car configuration in the simulator in recent days. “I briefly spoke with the engineer responsible, and the feedback is positive,” Permane concluded. “In Miami, you will see all the aerodynamic updates, and the same will apply in Montreal. We have some good developments coming.”
