Racing Bulls achieves double Q3 at the Hungarian Grand Prix
The Racing Bulls team delivered an impressive performance during the qualifying session for the 2025 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit. Both drivers, Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar, succeeded in reaching Q3, securing positions on the fifth row of the grid. In a surprising outcome, it was New Zealand driver Liam Lawson who managed to outqualify his teammate Isack Hadjar, despite having been behind the Frenchman for most of the weekend’s practice sessions.
However, Isack Hadjar encountered difficulties during qualifying, sustaining damage to his car after an off-track excursion that compromised his performance. Below are the post-qualifying comments from both Racing Bulls drivers.
Liam Lawson:
“It feels great to be in Q3, especially considering that it has been quite a challenging weekend up to this point,” said Liam Lawson, who will start the race from ninth place on the grid. “Track conditions changed a bit during the qualifying session, and we probably could have extracted a little more performance from the car. At this circuit, qualifying is particularly important due to the limited overtaking opportunities. The car has been performing very well lately, especially in terms of race pace over longer stints. Everything is extremely tight among the midfield runners, so it will be crucial to get a clean start, manage the tyres carefully, and aim to stay within the points-scoring positions throughout the race.”
Isack Hadjar:
“The car has been working really well all weekend, and everything was going smoothly right up until Q3,” explained Isack Hadjar, who will line up tenth on the starting grid. “Then the wind picked up significantly, which made things more difficult. I made a mistake and went off onto the grass, and after that moment the car didn’t feel quite right. I was only able to do one flying lap in Q3, but I know there was definitely more potential in the car—we could have realistically targeted seventh place. Our race pace for tomorrow looks encouraging, so starting from P10 I’ll need a strong launch and a smart strategy. I’m ready to fight hard to bring home points for the team.”
With both Racing Bulls drivers starting in the top ten at a circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult, the team is well-positioned to score valuable points. The consistent improvement of the car’s long-run performance and the strong qualifying result highlight the growing competitiveness of the Racing Bulls squad in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
