Predictions for the 2025 Formula 1 season: Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris are betting on the number of winning teams. The British driver had suggested that, in addition to McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes, other teams could also win at least one race. A generous hypothesis, according to the Asturian, who believes Formula 1 has become too “predictable.”
The first race of the season, set in the beautiful setting of Albert Park in Melbourne, is just around the corner. Excitement and anticipation are high for a championship that many describe as within reach for several drivers and teams. McLaren seemed to have an edge over the competition at the Bahrain test sessions, but only the Friday of the Australian Grand Prix will provide clearer team rankings.
In recent seasons, the gaps between the various cars on track have narrowed. In qualifying, it is not uncommon to see almost all the cars within about a second of each other, though larger gaps can appear by the end of the race. For this reason, Lando Norris hypothesized more opportunities for victory for teams outside the “Top 4.” From Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso has a different perspective.
Too much predictability: Fernando Alonso “criticizes” modern F1
The Spaniard shares his point of view: “I think this year the situation is more open,” says the Aston Martin driver, as reported by Autosport. “Last year it seemed Max had a big advantage in winter testing, while this year it seems McLaren has it. But I haven’t followed the tests; I only read the news this morning.”
Regarding the competitiveness of other teams, his view differs: “When [Norris] was driving for the fifth or sixth team, he said only one team would win all the races. This is normal talk, it’s about confidence. It’s good for him, but I think it will be difficult. Reliability is very good in this era: there are not many retirements, not many accidents. The strategies are fairly well defined.” – the Spaniard pointed out.
“Even on Thursday, before arriving at the Grand Prix, you know exactly if there will be one stop, two stops, which tire you’ll use. Now everything is so perfect that it’s hard to change or make a race unpredictable. There have to be some extreme weather conditions or something like that. Let’s hope there are more winners and that the championship is very competitive.” – the Aston Martin driver concluded.
