Best result of the season for Alpine and Gasly
During a challenging weekend at Silverstone marked by unpredictable weather conditions and numerous difficulties for many drivers on the grid, Pierre Gasly stood out as one of the most impressive performers. The Frenchman, racing for the Alpine F1 Team—an outfit based in Enstone, United Kingdom, which currently occupies the bottom position in the Constructors’ Championship—managed to qualify inside the top ten on Saturday. He then went on to finish the race in a remarkable sixth place, a performance that represents the team’s highest finish in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship to date.
A mix of flawless driving and perfect strategic calls
This surprising and impressive result came from a combination of consistent driving and spot-on strategic decisions from the Alpine team. Pierre Gasly, who formerly raced for Red Bull Racing, delivered an error-free performance in extremely tricky conditions that featured heavy rainfall and constantly evolving track grip. At the same time, the Alpine pit wall executed the right tyre choices at the right moments.
Pierre Gasly expressed how thrilled he was with the outcome, admitting that the sixth-place finish felt unbelievable. He pointed out that no one in the team had realistically expected such a result after the free practice sessions earlier in the weekend. He praised the entire Alpine squad for their hard work and commitment throughout the Grand Prix weekend and highlighted the added satisfaction of achieving such a strong performance at Silverstone, Alpine’s home race, in front of many Enstone-based team members watching from the grandstands.
Pierre Gasly said that the result served as an important morale boost for the entire organisation and added that he was genuinely happy with how the race unfolded. He also mentioned enjoying on-track battles with drivers he rarely gets to fight against, including two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, and reigning world champion Max Verstappen. He explained that it was a race where taking calculated risks was essential, and Alpine chose to be bold—and were rewarded accordingly.
From perfectly timed pit stops to correct tyre selections, everything came together for the Frenchman. He concluded that he was looking forward to visiting the Alpine factory this week, continuing to push hard with the team, and hoped to see many smiling faces when he arrived at Enstone the next morning.
A race viewed from the garage: disappointment for Franco Colapinto
However, smiles were harder to come by on the other side of the Alpine garage. Franco Colapinto endured a weekend to forget. After spinning out during the qualifying session, the young Argentine driver was unable to even start the British Grand Prix due to a technical failure with his car on the grid. Still sitting at the bottom of the Drivers’ Championship standings with zero points, Colapinto was clearly disappointed with how his Sunday unfolded.
He stated that he had been eager to take part in the race and was frustrated not to have had the chance to recover from his poor qualifying result, especially given the race conditions which offered plenty of opportunities for overtaking and comeback drives. At the time of the failure, the team did not immediately understand the nature of the problem, which required in-depth analysis during the race itself.
Franco Colapinto explained that all he knew was that he was unable to leave the pit lane, despite attempts by the team to resolve the issue and restart the car. Ultimately, Alpine had no choice but to retire his A524 chassis before it even reached the starting grid.
The Argentine rookie reflected on the situation, acknowledging that as a driver, one always wants to be out on track—especially on days like that, where even those starting from the back had chances to move forward. He noted that the race turned out to be a valuable learning experience that would prove useful for the remaining rounds of the season. He watched the Grand Prix from the garage and described it as exciting to follow. He also congratulated Pierre Gasly and the entire Alpine team for scoring crucial points in their home event.
Looking ahead, Franco Colapinto underlined that with two weeks between races, the team would return to Enstone to work intensely in preparation for the final stretch before the mid-season summer break.
