Austria feels like a home race for Alpine

For Alpine, the Red Bull Ring represents an important weekend for several reasons. One of them is the team’s close connection with Austria through BWT, the Austrian company that serves as the title sponsor of the Enstone-based outfit.

The Austrian Grand Prix could also prove significant from a technical standpoint. The A526 has been scoring points consistently throughout the season and, alongside Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly is the only driver to have finished inside the top 10 during every race weekend so far in 2026. In addition, the characteristics of the Styrian circuit could allow the Mercedes power unit to play a major role in Alpine’s competitiveness.

Gasly’s comments

The Frenchman has been one of the standout performers of the 2026 season so far. Gasly sits just 14 points behind Max Verstappen in the championship standings and has scored seven points more than fellow French driver Isack Hadjar. Now he is hoping to continue his impressive run at the Red Bull Ring.

“It’s a challenging circuit where you almost never get a moment to relax. It’s a high-speed track with a lot of elevation changes, heavy braking zones and relatively short braking distances, which means you have to be flawless because every small mistake hurts your lap time, and on a circuit where the margins are so small, that can make a huge difference,” Gasly explained.

Colapinto eager for more points

“It was positive for the team to secure another double points finish in Barcelona last time out,” added Franco Colapinto. “There’s a really good feeling within the team now that we’re fully into the European part of the season, and I’m looking forward to the next double-header, which begins this week in Spielberg.”

“It’s a very enjoyable and flowing circuit. I finished on the podium here in the Formula 2 Feature Race in 2024 and also during my rookie Formula 3 season in 2022. It’s the shortest track on the calendar, which makes it unforgiving. One-lap pace has to be strong because the gaps will probably be smaller than at most other circuits.
