Why the McLaren driver celebrated like that
Oscar Piastri, after getting out of the car in Parc Fermé, celebrated his Miami GP win with a dance move – specifically the ‘Griddy,’ a step made famous by an NFL player with whom Oscar Piastri had made a bet.
“It was an attempt to dance the Griddy, poorly executed as you probably saw,” Oscar Piastri explained. “I met Justin Jefferson on Thursday – he’s the one who basically made the Griddy famous worldwide – and I stupidly made a bet with him that if I won the race, I would do a dance for him. After qualifying I didn’t practice because I didn’t think this would actually happen. I honored the bet, but that’s the last time you’ll see me doing the Griddy.”
