Oscar Piastri is enjoying a positive Formula 1 weekend again after a challenging period. The McLaren driver secured a strong pole position in qualifying for the Qatar GP and spoke to Sky Sport Italia about a moment that marks a turning point in his mindset.
Confidence returns for Piastri
Oscar Piastri explained that the atmosphere is finally lighter: “These last races have been tough for me, but the element of fun is still there within the team.” McLaren provided him with a stable and precise car, allowing him to regain confidence.
The Lusail circuit highlighted his strengths. Oscar Piastri described an immediate connection with the track: “Of course, it was a bit more difficult for me to put everything together on track, but this circuit, I think, really allows for incredible feelings. The car was in an excellent window… the sensations are truly fantastic.”
Turning confidence into speed
The combination of high grip and fast corners made the McLaren particularly competitive, letting him convert confidence into raw speed: “When you have the best car and can qualify on pole, it makes you feel even better.”
However, for Oscar Piastri, pole is not the end goal. The race will require nerves of steel and clear thinking to remain in title contention, and the Australian feels prepared: “The situation is what it is. Every weekend is like this, and so far it’s gone well.”
The McLaren driver also feels he has regained the right mental approach: “I think I’ve regained a lot of confidence, and when things go the right way and I find the rhythm, I can perform without having to invent anything special.”
He concluded with a statement that carries weight: “I have confidence that I can try to do the same in the race, and I’m ready.” A clear message to Max Verstappen and Lando Norris: Oscar Piastri is back as a serious threat.
After weeks in the shadows, Oscar Piastri has found his groove again – and he’s coming for the fight.
