Former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has successfully completed the fundraising for his third investment fund through Rosberg Ventures, cementing his status as one of the most impressive athlete-turned-investors in recent years. The fund closed at $100 million, a milestone that drew strong interest from a wide range of investors. Demand was so high that the fund had to cap individual contributions to ensure balanced capital management. With this latest fund, Rosberg Ventures now manages approximately $200 million, establishing itself as one of the most notable investment projects initiated by a former sports champion, according to Bloomberg.
Rosberg, who won the F1 World Championship in 2016, retired from racing immediately after claiming the title. Since then, he has been based in Monaco and has devoted most of his time to technology and investment ventures. As the founder of Rosberg Ventures, he actively participates in the projects, including investing his own capital alongside that of other stakeholders.
A patient and long-term approach
Rosberg has adopted a disciplined, measured investment strategy, often comparing his entry into the tech world to learning football as a beginner: you cannot expect to win everything immediately against the strongest competitors. When he invests directly in a company, Rosberg typically commits moderate sums, usually a few million dollars per deal, and he does not seek controlling stakes.
In the early years, Rosberg Ventures focused primarily on investing in established, experienced venture funds. This approach allowed the firm to participate indirectly in the most promising Silicon Valley opportunities without having to manage everything personally. Over time, the fund also began making direct investments in high-potential companies while maintaining a careful balance between indirect and direct investments.
Among the most notable investments are stakes in well-known companies such as SpaceX and Lyft, acquired through dedicated investment vehicles. Another high-profile investment was in ClickHouse, a high-performance database company that reached a valuation of over $6 billion in 2025. Not all ventures were successful, however, with setbacks like Lilium, the electric air taxi startup that declared bankruptcy in 2025.
Rosberg’s competitive advantage today
Even in a challenging environment for medium and small investment funds, characterized by high interest rates and economic uncertainty, Rosberg continues to attract capital with relative ease. His reputation as a former F1 driver, combined with personal relationships developed over the years, particularly in the United States, allows him access to high-level deals typically reserved for the largest, most established funds. This network remains the key strength of Rosberg Ventures.
Nico Rosberg expresses gratitude toward the investors who have supported him from the beginning, noting that their trust has been crucial to the firm’s growth. His goal is to further expand Rosberg Ventures, turning it into one of the most respected names among athlete-founded funds. The focus remains on participating in the best opportunities in the U.S. tech sector with the same patient, disciplined, and quality-driven approach that has defined his journey so far.
