Williams takes another step back: February 3 car launch goes virtual
The English team has reportedly changed the format of the launch event for its new car.
More problems for Grove
Williams’ 2026 season has started on a challenging note. The Grove-based team had high hopes for this year, aiming to get even closer to the front of the grid after an excellent fifth place in last season’s Constructors’ Championship. Instead, the British outfit was forced to skip the closed-door Barcelona tests entirely due to “delays in the FW48 project.” Rumors suggested that James Vowles’ team initially failed the FIA crash tests, preventing the car from traveling to Spain.
Presentation ‘switch’
New reports offer little encouragement for the historic team founded by Frank Williams. According to journalist Thomas Maher, the team has changed the format of the new car’s launch, originally scheduled for February 3. The FW48 was expected to be unveiled with its full new livery, but the event has now been moved online. Not exactly a positive signal for fans and competitors alike.
At this point, all hope rests on the car being ready by February 11, when the first of two “real” test sessions begins in Bahrain.
For now, Williams finds itself in a precarious position, battling both the clock and the complexities of radical new regulations. While a virtual launch might save the team precious hours in the factory, the true test will be whether the car can hit the ground running in the desert. In a season where reliability and early data collection are paramount, Grove’s ability to stabilize their production line could be the difference between a competitive start and a long year spent playing catch-up.
