“It was a very strong weekend for us as a team, and we return from Azerbaijan with a good result. It was great to be back on the podium with second place and to have Kimi in fourth, scoring important points.”
Wolff: “Antonelli managed to beat Lawson, Leclerc did not.”
The Team Principal also acknowledged the merits of their rivals, particularly Carlos Sainz and the surprisingly competitive Williams team in Baku:
“Congratulations to Carlos, James [Vowles, Williams Team Principal], and the Williams team for their third-place finish. It was a fully deserved result. Kimi did his best to close the gap and attempt an overtake, but their pace was simply too strong.”
Wolff nonetheless applauded Antonelli for a solid performance, noting that he successfully overtook Liam Lawson—a feat that other top drivers like Charles Leclerc and Yuki Tsunoda were unable to achieve despite having DRS:
“Kimi did an excellent job overtaking Lawson; we saw how other cars, such as Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari and Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull, were unable to do the same even with DRS available.”
Russell finishes second despite respiratory infection
Wolff also offered special praise for George Russell, who made it to the podium despite not being in peak physical condition:
“George delivered a fantastic race; he suffered from an infection throughout the weekend and until Friday and Saturday he wasn’t even sure he could race. It was a tremendous effort on his part, and achieving this performance was incredible.”
