McLaren’s second constructors’ championship match point at Singapore: here’s what’s needed
For the second time this season, McLaren has the opportunity to clinch the 2025 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, this time at the Singapore Grand Prix. After missing the first match point in Azerbaijan, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris will have another chance at Marina Bay, with the British team almost certain to be crowned champions for the tenth time in its history.
With seven races still remaining, including three Sprint events, a total of 346 points are still up for grabs. Looking at the standings, Mercedes sits in second place with 290 points—333 points behind McLaren—while Ferrari follows with 286 points, 337 points adrift of the top. Considering that the maximum points Mercedes could still achieve is 636, McLaren needs just 13 more points to mathematically secure the championship.
This means that a single podium finish for either Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris would be enough to put both chasing teams out of contention. Red Bull, despite their victory in Baku, is already out of the running for the Constructors’ Championship. All signs point to McLaren, led by team principal Andrea Stella, celebrating their tenth world title in Singapore, capping off a season dominated from start to finish.
