McLaren has officially announced well in advance that Pato will once again be the driver chosen to drive the MCL39 in FP1 at the Mexican Grand Prix. The 25-year-old IndyCar driver will return at the wheel of the papaya-colored car in front of his home crowd.
Talk about planning ahead: McLaren officially confirmed today that Pato O’Ward will take part in FP1 of the Mexico City Grand Prix, scheduled for Friday, October 24.
The 25-year-old, who races in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren, will get behind the wheel of the MCL39 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the second consecutive year in his home race:
“I’m excited to be back in the car for FP1 at my home race again this year. The fans in Mexico City were incredible last time, and it felt great to be able to make the most of the program the team had planned. I can’t wait to return this year, working with Zak, Andrea, and the whole team.” – he explained.
Pato O’Ward, who has not yet contested two Grands Prix, is still considered a rookie. The Woking-based team will announce in due course the names of the other young drivers who will take the wheel of the papaya car in the remaining three FIA-mandated sessions.
