Red Bull F1: 9 Championships with the same livery
It has been nine seasons since Red Bull F1 adopted the matte blue livery in 2016, which has been used every year since with no significant changes (apart from a few sponsor updates). This design has accompanied Max Verstappen throughout his entire career with the Milton Keynes team, linking his first win at the 2016 Spanish GP to his most recent victory, his 63rd, achieved this year in Qatar. In between, there have been two regulatory overhauls and, of course, four Drivers’ and two Constructors’ titles.
Max Verstappen’s wish
The livery, now iconic, seems to have tired even the four-time world champion from Red Bull F1. During an appearance on the team’s official podcast, *Talking Bulls*, Max Verstappen expressed a desire to see some innovation in the colors of the 2025 car: “I’m eager to see the new car, and I think when I return to the factory for the first time, I’ll already have some idea of what it will look like. But I hope the livery will be a bit different. We were discussing it earlier in a meeting, and I have to say I really liked those cars with metallic paints,” Max said, pointing to some of the older Red Bull designs from before 2016 displayed behind him.
“For some time now, we’ve had these cars in matte blue, but I think it’s nice sometimes to spice things up and change something,” Max Verstappen added regarding the livery he hopes to see on his next F1 Red Bull. Many teams now favor matte colors over metallic paints because they save weight. For the same reason, some teams have entirely eliminated paint, leaving the bodywork exposed in bare carbon black.
Awaiting February 18, 2025
For this same reason, the Milton Keynes team avoided painting the RB20 with the special fan-designed livery for the last Singapore GP. On February 18, at the event held at London’s O2 Arena where every car’s livery will be unveiled, we will find out if the Red Bull F1 designers have granted Max Verstappen’s request.
