A Max-like burst
Once again, it was abundantly clear how Max Verstappen is Red Bull. The difference with any teammate is too great—moving from Sergio Perez to Liam Lawson, who finished 18th today—and the enormous talent of the Dutch champion, capable of bringing a car far from perfect to third place at the end of Australian GP qualifying.
Max Verstappen’s analysis
The McLarens are still distant, with pole position being 0.385 seconds away from Max, but the four-time world champion can be pleased with the progress made: “Honestly, I’m quite surprised to be here after yesterday. I felt confident and comfortable with the car, but it’s clear that we still lack some pace. Overall, though, I’m happy with the laps I did in qualifying. I tried to get the maximum out of it.”
Max Verstappen didn’t want to go into specifics about the changes made to the RB21: “We worked on the car, trying to tune the balance and other things, and the car came to life. Overall, it was quite easy to drive, but too slow. Today it was faster, but still not enough.” – the four-time Formula 1 world champion pointed out.
Expanding the analysis to the rivals, he explained: “Being ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes is positive for us. I’m not expecting miracles. I don’t think we are on the same level as the McLarens, but I will do my best and we’ll see what happens tomorrow.” – the Red Bull man concluded.
