Max Verstappen and George Russell’s comments
The Formula 1 paddock continues to buzz with rumors surrounding Max Verstappen’s future. In Austria, talks reignited about what lies ahead for the Dutch world champion. Some of the speculation stems from Max Verstappen himself, who said in Thursday’s press conference that he’s “not thinking” about staying at Red Bull in 2026—not exactly what you’d expect from someone under contract through the end of 2028.
The debate gained further traction after comments from George Russell, who is also out of contract at the end of this season and seeking a renewal with Mercedes. According to George Russell, it’s “normal” that the Brackley-based team would try to lure Max Verstappen away from the outfit where he’s grown up and won four world titles. Predictably, these remarks drew a sharp response from Red Bull.
Helmut Marko hits back at #63
Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s long-time advisor and a key figure in discovering and supporting Max Verstappen, took the opportunity to fire back at Russell through the media. When asked by reporters in Austria about George Russell’s comments, Marko replied with sarcasm: “What did he say this time? Russell talks so much…”
He then turned the discussion back toward the Mercedes driver.
“Russell talks, but I thought his contract for next year was already sorted,” said Red Bull’s senior advisor. “Things must’ve changed after Montreal. Maybe that win went to his head?” Marko added mockingly, before brushing off the matter, saying he had “no opinion” on Russell’s speculation, which he also called a “theoretical exercise.”
This saga looks far from over.
