Max Verstappen has ruled out the possibility of becoming a team principal in Formula 1, stating that he has no interest in taking on such a role despite his extensive involvement in motorsport. The Dutch four-time World Champion has made it clear that managing an F1 team is not part of his future plans.
Not just F1
Throughout 2025, Max Verstappen has demonstrated his all-encompassing passion for motorsport. While Formula 1 remains at the core of his career, he has also pursued other championships with enthusiasm. A prime example was his participation in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, which he completed successfully alongside his crew, fulfilling his dream of racing on the legendary Nordschleife circuit.
In addition, Max Verstappen has developed his own team in GT racing, Verstappen.com Racing, showcasing an interest in the managerial side of motorsport. However, when it comes to Formula 1, he has firmly excluded the idea of taking on a team principal role. In an interview with Dutch website Formule1.nl, the Red Bull driver was very clear on the matter.
Practical issues
“Me as a team principal? I won’t become one in F1. I don’t want to, really,” Max Verstappen stated. He provided a concrete reason for this decision: “When you are the team principal of an F1 team, you have to live in England or Italy, and I don’t want to do that. It’s a practical objection, but I think a role like that is too demanding, definitely too demanding. It’s not what I enjoy doing, nor is it something I aspire to.”
It remains possible, though, that a similar managerial role in another championship—perhaps one with less politics and more simplicity—could appeal to him in a very distant future, once Max Verstappen decides to hang up his helmet.
While Max Verstappen enjoys the strategic and competitive aspects of team ownership in other racing series, the rigorous demands and necessary geographical commitments of leading an F1 operation are factors that ultimately prevent the reigning champion from aspiring to a top management role in the future.
