Max Verstappen opens up on Red Bull chaos: “Jos and Horner cleared things up”. Max Verstappen on the tumultuous months at the start of 2024 for Red Bull.

Sudden Turbulence
After the record-breaking 2023 season, Max Verstappen found himself facing not only his rivals on track but also internal chaos at Red Bull, triggered by the Horner case (from which the team principal was ultimately exonerated) and internal power struggles. While Max Verstappen managed to focus solely on racing, many will remember the argument that erupted in Bahrain between his father, Jos, and Christian Horner, captured by photographers at the circuit.

Max Verstappen’s Account
Max Verstappen provided an intriguing account of what happened during his interview “Simply Lovely” with Viaplay: “Everything happened before going to Bahrain, and it’s never good, either for the team or for him (Christian Horner). Ultimately, we had to keep being a team and focus on performance, because that’s what we’re paid to do,” he said, adding, “There were many things happening in the background. And I obviously saw more than most people did. But it’s not necessary to share everything with the media.”

Max Verstappen also expressed his thoughts on Christian Horner: “He stayed, and I think the bond between the whole team and Christian has grown stronger. It’s easy to say you’ll wash your hands of it and not get involved. But you have to weather the storm together.”

In the end, calm was restored, even between Jos and Christian Horner: “A lot of mud was thrown at us from every direction. But the important thing was to resolve issues internally and not in the media. And that worked, even between my father and Christian. It was something that needed to be discussed among ourselves, and that’s exactly what they did.”
