With the fourth constructors’ title secured in Las Vegas, Max Verstappen once again proved his worth behind the wheel of this generation of single-seaters. Despite an extremely complex and challenging season, the Dutchman managed to claim the title in Sin City. A drivers’ championship that closes the 2024 chapter with Max Verstappen silencing Zak Brown in no uncertain terms after the race.
The Red Bull RB20 started the 2024 season as a direct descendant of the dominant RB19. A car that seemed destined to repeat its predecessor’s success in the 2024 championship. However, things didn’t entirely go that way, with the team securing “only” 8 wins up to Las Vegas and leaving the other 14 to competitors. Still, it’s a striking statistic, combined with top results achieved when the car wasn’t at its peak.
Max Verstappen’s season has been marked by criticism from journalists and members of rival teams, who clashed with the Dutchman. Many claimed that he could only win thanks to the performance of his Red Bull, downplaying the driver’s talent. These words were already silenced last weekend in the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit, where Max Verstappen managed to win from P17 in one of the year’s most challenging races. Wet-weather driving with extreme visibility issues, combined with a series of incidents, showcased the true meaning of talent on the track.
That talent was evident again in Las Vegas, where, knowing what was at stake, he chose not to take risks and avoid ending up in the barriers. His maturity allowed him to understand that, even without a super-performing car, he could still clinch the title. A straightforward way to “take down” Zak Brown in a post-race exchange. “As you might have said before, I could only win with the fastest car. This year, it’s a bit different!” Max Verstappen remarked at the end of the Las Vegas Gran Prix. The Dutchman’s direct comment ended in a shared laugh between the two.
