During qualifying for the United States Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda expressed strong frustration over being impeded by Liam Lawson, claiming that the New Zealander was doing it deliberately.
Lawson unaware of the situation
In response, during post-qualifying interviews, Liam Lawson reacted: “Me? I have absolutely no idea what he’s talking about, but honestly, traffic is always a bit tricky here. Everyone had to deal with it this weekend—for example, yesterday in the first sector. I can’t understand where I could have been ahead of him, but, well, these things happen.”
Whether it was intentional or not, tensions between Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson are certainly high at the moment due to the 2026 driver situation: Racing Bulls has yet to confirm whether Liam Lawson will stay, while Yuki Tsunoda’s seat at Red Bull is still in question.
For now, both drivers need to focus on the current weekend. Liam Lawson will start from 12th on the grid, immediately ahead of Yuki Tsunoda.
Liam Lawson added, “The car was really fast, but we were hit by very strong wind at the start of the lap. Unfortunately, it’s one of those things we all have to deal with, and it cost us a lot of time on the lap.”
It’s shaping up to be an interesting race, but will Lawson manage to navigate the twists and turns of the Sprint? We’ll find out at 21:00 Central European Time.
