Liam Lawson has firmly denied all rumors that surfaced after his departure from the Red Bull Racing team at the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Currently racing with the Red Bull-affiliated team Racing Bulls, Lawson has returned to delivering the consistent performances that fans first saw last year while driving the same car model. Although his time with the main Red Bull Racing team was brief, this may have ultimately been a positive outcome considering the ongoing challenges surrounding the team’s second driver seat at the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
The New Zealand driver was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda before the Japanese Grand Prix. Lawson’s start to the season was far from ideal, but Yuki Tsunoda’s performances were similarly underwhelming. It has become clear that the problem does not lie solely with the choice of drivers. Red Bull has struggled to find a reliable and competitive second driver for over two seasons.
Lawson Addresses Confidence Rumors
After being moved from Red Bull Racing to the junior Racing Bulls team, Liam Lawson faced widespread speculation about his mental state and confidence. Several reports claimed that he was struggling psychologically after being “rejected” by the Faenza-based AlphaTauri team. On this sensitive subject, Liam Lawson himself has publicly denied the rumors, calling all the reports “completely false.”
The driver emphasized that his focus remains on racing and improving, dismissing any suggestions that his confidence or mental approach had been negatively affected by the team changes. This statement highlights Lawson’s determination to continue developing his Formula 1 career despite setbacks and ongoing speculation.
“I would like to say something I want to be clear about. Between the first races, the team change, and going to Japan, nothing has changed mentally for me. There has been strong speculation that my confidence took a hit and other things like that. It is all completely false. Since the start of the year, I have felt the same as always.”
“I believe that two races on circuits I have never been to are not enough to affect my confidence. Maybe after six months of the season, if I am still at that level. If the results were still like that then I would feel something. Maybe in that case, I would take a hit.”
