Lawson has no doubts: “Hadjar in Red Bull? He is ready”
The growth of the rookie
Isack Hadjar’s Formula 1 debut raised more than a few concerns about the potential of the French-Algerian Racing Bulls driver, especially after a spin during the formation lap. A rare incident that left the rookie in tears and sparked criticism from Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, who described the reaction as an “embarrassing” show. However, race after race, Hadjar has silenced the critics with solid performances, showing clear signs of progress.
Future in Red Bull?
His progress culminated in a first Formula 1 podium at the Dutch Grand Prix, where he started from fourth on the grid and delivered a flawless race. That weekend at Zandvoort further fuelled speculation about a potential move to Red Bull in 2026, especially as Yuki Tsunoda has struggled to impress in the senior team. Yuki Tsunoda had even been replaced by Liam Lawson earlier in the year at the Japanese Grand Prix after just two races.
The New Zealander, who now shares the garage with Hadjar at Faenza, has praised his teammate’s qualities while considering what the future may hold for him. “He’s doing a fantastic job,” Lawson told the media. “To achieve a podium this season is really spectacular. In some ways, I think a lot of drivers always feel ready for the next step, and right now he is doing everything the right way.”
A significant step towards Red Bull
A move to Red Bull would represent a huge step, though recent years have shown just how tough life can be for teammates of Max Verstappen – something Lawson himself has experienced. Even so, the 23-year-old believes Hadjar has everything needed to take the opportunity if it comes. “It depends on where the car will be next year, how it handles. That’s probably the biggest issue with that seat at the moment, so there are a lot of variables. As a driver, he is ready. If you’re ready for F1, I think you’re ready for that kind of position,” Liam Lawson concluded.
