The Spanish Grand Prix concluded with another double points finish for Racing Bulls. It marks an excellent result for the Faenza-based squad, which managed to maximize its haul despite the challenges brought by scorching track temperatures and a poorly timed Virtual Safety Car period that caught out both VCARB drivers.
Liam Lawson reacts to a challenging afternoon in Spain
“It was a difficult race today. We came into it expecting to be more competitive, but unfortunately, we struggled with our pace compared to the cars around us. We were also unlucky with the VSC, which allowed Gasly to pit and come back out ahead of us, making our race even more complicated.”
“We will head back, review everything, and see what we could have done better to maximize the result. Despite today’s outcome, there are still plenty of positives to take away. We showed good pace throughout the entire weekend, and the season so far has been encouraging,” he added.
“We have also managed to score points in most of the races so far, which is a testament to the hard work that everyone is putting in. We are in a good position as a team and there is a lot to be optimistic about, so I am looking forward to getting to Austria and I am excited to see what we can achieve there,” he concluded.
Arvid Lindblad highlights strong race pace from the back
“Overall, we had a decent day, and it is a good result for the team to get both cars back in the points once again after Monaco. That being said, we will regroup with the team and see what we could have executed better, as we lost some time during the race,” he stated.
“We were quick during the second and third stints, but starting from so far back made it more of a recovery drive rather than being able to truly exploit our pace to gain positions. Either way, the team provided us with a strong package, which I am happy with,” he added.
“After the recent weekends where we raced on very peculiar circuits, it was nice to show good pace here in Barcelona too, which is more of a standard high-speed track. Hopefully, this means the car will suit the upcoming circuits, starting with our return to racing at the Red Bull Ring in two weeks,” he concluded.
Alan Permane analyzes the midfield landscape
Finally, the team’s racing director summed up the competitive weekend: “There are mixed feelings after today’s race in Barcelona. After a strong weekend, it felt like we fell back a little bit in the race. The Alpines certainly got the better of us today, but this also proves that our ambitions and expectations are higher than what we achieved, even with both cars finishing in the points in P8 and P9 following Franco Colapinto’s time penalty.”
“We will definitely analyze our pace transition from qualifying to the race, which will form a large part of the work we do this week to see where we could have improved. Overall, it was a decent weekend, however, we always aim to do better, and the team will work hard to make important adjustments ahead of Austria,” he concluded.
Ultimately, while the unexpected timing of the Virtual Safety Car prevented the Italian outfit from fully unleashing its true potential against its immediate midfield rivals, the dual top-ten finishes for Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad confirm that the team possesses a highly adaptable platform capable of maintaining its competitive edge over Alpine as the European leg of the championship progresses.
