Lando Norris does not believe McLaren will arrive as a favorite at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the team’s weakest track in 2024.
Lando Norris heading to Las Vegas
After the Interlagos weekend, Formula 1 now heads to Nevada for the final American race of the calendar. The season concludes under the lights of Las Vegas, where McLaren could also settle the drivers’ championship battle, limited to the internal challenge between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
In 2024, the papaya team did not shine on the Strip (Lando Norris sixth, Oscar Piastri seventh) and may therefore face a weekend more complicated than Mexico and Brazil, where they had previously shown strong performance. While team principal Andrea Stella believes McLaren has improved even on low-downforce circuits, Norris remains more cautious.
Lando Norris’ words
Lando Norris commented: “I think it was our worst race last year, I’m not particularly excited about it and I’m not confident. We’ve tried to work hard to improve in these areas. We know that Mercedes was incredibly strong last year, as were Red Bull and Ferrari. I think we were the last of those four.”
He added: “Abu Dhabi and Qatar are races we are looking forward to. I genuinely think we won’t be fast, but we’ll wait and see: I’m not saying I’ll finish tenth, but it will be difficult to win. Last year we were light-years behind.”
