Consistency defines Norris
This unexpected spring break in Formula 1, with the championship paused for over a month due to the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix following the conflict in Iran and the Gulf countries, offers a chance to highlight some notable statistics and trends that often go unnoticed.
Take Lando Norris, for example. His profile may have slipped from media headlines in the early part of the 2026 season, following a dramatic and hard-fought world championship victory in Abu Dhabi at the end of the 2025 season. Yet, the McLaren driver is currently holding the record for the longest streak of consecutive Q3 appearances in Formula 1.
Always in Q3
Lando Norris has not missed the top 10 in qualifying for an astonishing 34 consecutive Grands Prix. The last time he failed to reach Q3 was on September 14, 2024, at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he qualified only 17th. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, went on to win that race, while Norris mounted an impressive comeback to finish just off the podium in fourth place.
Saturday dominance
Over these 34 race weekends, Lando Norris has also been the driver to claim the most pole positions, securing 11, compared to Max Verstappen’s 8 and Oscar Piastri’s 6. It is particularly notable that the McLaren driver has maintained this trend despite the team’s reliability issues at the start of this new regulatory era. In many ways, Lando Norris has become the current “Mr. Saturday” of Formula 1—a nickname previously given to his friend and compatriot George Russell for his consistent ability to outqualify teammates.
Lando Norris’s ability to consistently reach Q3 highlights his evolution into one of the most complete drivers on the modern grid. By pairing his natural qualifying pace with the resilience required to overcome McLaren’s early-season technical hurdles, he has solidified his status as a championship-caliber talent who can be relied upon to deliver results whenever the lights in the pit lane turn green.
