Lando Norris riding high
The last two Latin American weekends, in Mexico City and Brazil, have boosted Lando Norris’s confidence and helped him extend his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. With a 24-point advantage over teammate Oscar Piastri and only three races remaining in the 2025 season, the British driver is the clear favorite to clinch the title. His position is strengthened not just by the gap in recent races, but by a strong upward trend. Lando Norris is gaining more confidence in the car just as Piastri struggles to find consistency and trust in the MCL39, while Red Bull seems to have fallen short with the latest upgrade package on Max Verstappen’s RB21.
A record about to fall
Beyond the championship predictions, Lando Norris is on the verge of a historic milestone. With the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the British driver will equal David Coulthard’s record for the most Formula 1 starts with McLaren. This record will initially be shared but is expected to be surpassed during the Lusail weekend, when Norris could potentially secure the world title and simultaneously become the driver with the most races completed in a McLaren car.
Of course, records today have a slightly different weight compared to the past, when seasons featured only 15 to 18 races, whereas today there are 23 to 24 races per year. Nevertheless, this milestone will delight both fans and Lando Norris himself, who is poised to cement his place in McLaren history. Beyond becoming the team’s longest-serving driver with 151 starts (Las Vegas will mark his 150th), he could also secure his first F1 World Championship, bringing the Drivers’ title back to Woking 17 years after Lewis Hamilton’s controversial 2008 triumph. Norris has been racing in Formula 1 since 2019 and has driven exclusively for McLaren. Behind him in McLaren starts are Jenson Button with 136 races and Mika Häkkinen with 131.
