Lando Norris bursts into tears after winning his first F1 world championship
ABU DHABI (UNITED ARAB EMIRATES) – Mission accomplished for Lando Norris, who has become a Formula 1 world champion for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old British McLaren driver, despite a few tense moments during the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, clinched the drivers’ title thanks to his third-place finish behind Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. For Verstappen, the victory at Yas Marina — his eighth of the year — was not enough, leaving him just two points shy of the championship lead.
It was an extraordinary season for Norris, who achieved seven race wins, 15 podiums, and seven pole positions, allowing him to finally express his pure joy and relief.
F1 champion Norris celebrates with tears and a kiss for his girlfriend
The first emotions came through over the team radio, with Norris already in tears thanking his team: “I’m not crying… I swear,” he joked. His joyful tears continued during the post-race interview, touching his mother deeply, and culminated with a heartfelt kiss for his girlfriend, Margarida Corceiro.
“It’s been a while since I cried. It’s been a very long journey. I want to thank all the team members, my parents who have supported me from the very beginning. It feels amazing. I also want to congratulate Oscar and Max — they didn’t make it easy for me. It’s been a pleasure racing with them and I had fun. It’s been a long season, but we made it. I knew it would be a long race, so I kept pushing and fighting until the end. I’m very proud of myself and of all the people I’m making cry right now. Investigation? I knew what I did was correct and I wasn’t too worried,” Norris said.
