Lance Stroll tempers excitement: Honda integration will take time, but Aston Martin dreams big. Lawrence Stroll urges patience for Aston Martin’s 2026 season.

Lance Stroll, 2025 F1

The 2026 Formula 1 season is approaching, and for Aston Martin it will be a crucial year: new technical regulations, the first car designed by Adrian Newey, and the start of an official partnership with Honda. This combination fuels high expectations among fans, but Lawrence Stroll prefers a cautious approach. The team owner is urging patience, highlighting the complexity of integrating a new power unit and, at least for now, tempering the excitement surrounding the AMR26.

Stroll: “With Honda, patience and time are needed, but expectations remain high”

The Canadian magnate, interviewed by the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com, reiterated his cautious stance:

“We are looking forward to next year with a major change in the regulations. It will be a big step forward; we have Honda as our engine partner, and we will be an official works team for the first time. It’s a completely different experience.”

Stroll explained the difference between receiving a customer engine and developing a chassis around a full works power unit:

“Designing a chassis to fit an engine is one thing, entirely different from simply receiving a customer engine. It takes time and patience for everything to come together.”

The work of Newey and Cowell

The integration work will be led by Adrian Newey, already key to Red Bull’s success with Honda, and Andy Cowell, the engineer who guided Mercedes AMG during its dominant era. A pair of names that inspire confidence, but do not eliminate the need to give Honda time.

“We will have a new power unit next year, and we need to give Honda the time necessary, hopefully, to develop it,” Stroll added, while confirming that “expectations are very high, at the maximum.”

Finally, the team owner wanted to balance caution with optimism:

“Now we need to give everyone time to come together and work so that these new and exciting regulations coming next year meet our high expectations.”

Lance Stroll’s message is clear: patience and realism first, even though the goal remains to bring Aston Martin to the top of Formula 1. Whether this is a communication strategy to reduce pressure or a real warning about initial challenges, will soon become clear.

The first pre-season tests in Barcelona, just over a month away, will provide the initial answers regarding the AMR26 and the future of the new alliance with Honda.
