Kimi Antonelli made his F1 debut just a few weeks ago, but his life as a student still keeps him busy in the classroom. The young driver from Bologna went viral on social media thanks to a classmate.
Just a week earlier, the Bologna native was on the other side of the world, and shortly after, he was back next to his classmates or being questioned at the blackboard. These are the habits Kimi Antonelli will have to maintain for a few more months—he may have debuted in F1, but he has yet to finish school.
Balancing life as a student and a racing driver can’t be easy. Kimi Antonelli knows this well, as he is in his final year of high school, juggling time on the circuit with studying to catch up on missed lessons. It’s a way of managing school life that aspiring motorsport drivers must get used to from a young age.
Over the years, several videos have surfaced showing Antonelli studying during breaks, such as in airports. When he returns to his hometown, making the most of study time is crucial for him so he can fully focus on racing when it’s time to compete.
The driver of car number 12 will face his final exams this year, and in an interview with Sky Sport, he explained the challenges of being both a student and a driver. His classmates will take their written exams in June, the week between the Canadian and Austrian GPs. “We’re trying to find a date that fits the entire calendar,” Kimi Antonelli clarified.
After the Chinese GP, F1 will return to Japan following a one-week break. This allowed Antonelli to return to Italy and spend some time at school, receiving a warm welcome from his classmates. One of them recorded a video with the Mercedes driver, posted it on TikTok, and it quickly went viral.
In January, Kimi Antonelli reached the milestone of getting his driver’s license, meaning he can now drive outside the racetrack as well. Now, the young Italian is preparing for his final step before leaving the school system. Will he find a date that accommodates both his racing and academic commitments? Will he continue his studies like Leonardo Fornaroli, or will he dedicate himself entirely to his F1 career?
